Introduction

Your health, safety and comfort is important to the University. If you use computers or other display screen equipment (DSE) e.g. laptops as part of your work it is important that your workstation is set up properly and that you know how to avoid aches and pains while using it. This self assessment checklist will help you identify whether there are any problems with the workstation.

The self assessment should be completed:

Before completing the self assessment you will need to complete the University's online Health and Safety for Computer Users training. To access this, please logon to QOL and select Health and Safety for Computer Users from the list of Courses & Requirements on the QOL homepage.

The course will explain the risks from using DSE, the reasons why you need to carry out an assessment and how to correctly set up your workstation. As you go through the assessment you may find it helpful to refer to the Computer Workstations section on the Safety Service website.

If you regularly work at a different workstation, a separate assessment should be completed for each workstation.

Work through the checklist, ticking either the 'Yes', 'No' or 'Not Applicable' column against each risk factor:

The information you provide will be processed in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act and will only be disclosed within the University to members of staff who need to know it in order to carry out their duties to ensure your health and safety.
